{"id":172835,"date":"2024-02-05T13:03:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T12:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/?post_type=mini_blog&#038;p=172835"},"modified":"2026-03-04T09:15:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T08:15:28","slug":"european-union-new-border-carbon-adjustment-mechanism-macf","status":"publish","type":"mini_blog","link":"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/en\/european-union-new-border-carbon-adjustment-mechanism-macf\/","title":{"rendered":"European Union: New Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)<\/strong> is a new regulatory instrument introduced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/european-union.europa.eu\/index_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Union<\/a> on 1 October 2023.<\/p>\n\n<p>The aim of this mechanism is to subject products imported into the EU customs territory to <strong>carbon pricing<\/strong> equivalent to that applied to European manufacturers of these products.<\/p>\n\n<p>The primary aim of this scheme is to <strong>combat carbon leakage<\/strong>, against a backdrop of increased climate ambitions at European level.<\/p>\n\n<p>In order to limit the complexity of the system, the MACF will initially apply only to certain so-called &#8220;simple&#8221; goods that are highly exposed to the risk of carbon leakage:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Steel,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cement,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aluminium,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nitrogen fertilisers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydrogen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Together, these sectors account for around half of industrial emissions in the EU.<\/p>\n\n<p><em>ASD Group does not offer this service to non-Community importers.<\/em><br\/><br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/en\/contact\/\">Contact our experts now<\/a> if you have any questions or require further information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a new regulatory instrument introduced by the European Union on 1 October 2023.
