While Washington threatened to apply customs duties of 30% on all European imports from 1 August, <strong>an agreement was reached to cap these duties at 15%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The agreement in brief:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Customs duties<\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>A single tariff of 15% will be applied to all European imports to the United States<\/strong>. This tariff affects several strategic sectors, including :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Motor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pharmaceutical industry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Semiconductors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sectoral exemptions<\/h2>\n\n<p>Certain products considered strategic will be partially or totally <strong>exempt from these new duties<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Aeronautics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Certain specific chemicals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agricultural products targeted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critical raw materials<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cross-investment<\/h2>\n\n<p>The agreement is also accompanied by<strong> structural economic measures<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The European Union is committed to buying US$750 billion worth of US hydrocarbons over three years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>European companies will invest US$600 billion in the US economy, mainly in infrastructure and green technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arms purchases by several EU Member States are currently being negotiated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Impact on businesses: points to watch out for<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reorganisation of supply chains<\/h3>\n\n<p>The new 15% duties will have an impact on the cost of American imports. <strong>It is imperative for European companies to reassess their logistics strategies<\/strong>, incorporating this new customs parameter into their supply plans.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">End of automatic exemptions<\/h3>\n\n<p>Even if certain sectors benefit from exemptions, <strong>the definitive list has yet to be confirmed<\/strong>. Exporters should keep a particularly close eye on developments concerning the following products:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wines and spirits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical devices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sensitive technologies (e.g. AI, electronic components)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Persistent legal uncertainty<\/h2>\n\n<p>It should be noted that <strong>this agreement remains at this preliminary stage<\/strong>.
