The Council of the European Union has now <strong>approved a one-year postponement of the regulation<\/strong> concerning products from deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR). <strong>This postponement addresses the concerns of Member States and industry regarding the technical and organisational difficulties<\/strong> associated with applying the regulation.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New implementation timetable: what changes<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Company category<\/th><th>Original scheduled date<\/th><th>New proposed date<\/th><th>Additional period<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Large enterprises<\/strong><\/td><td>30 December 2025<\/td><td><strong>30 December 2026<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>+ 1 year<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Medium-sized enterprises<\/strong><\/td><td>30 December 2025<\/td><td><strong>30 December 2026<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>+ 1 year<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Micro-enterprises<\/strong><\/td><td>30 December 2025<\/td><td><strong>30 June 2027<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>+ 1 year and 6 months<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Small enterprises<\/strong><\/td><td>30 December 2025<\/td><td><strong>30 June 2027<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>+ 1 year and 6 months<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n<p>This new timetable <strong>aims for a more realistic implementation<\/strong> while maintaining the regulation\u2019s environmental objectives.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reduced administrative obligations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>To reduce the administrative burden, the Council is proposing several major adjustments:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>only the company that places a product on the market for the first time<\/strong> will be required to submit a Due Diligence Statement;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>downstream operators will no longer have to produce a dedicated statement: <strong>they will use the reference number of the initial statement<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>micro and small primary operators will be able to <strong>submit a single simplified statement<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A review of the system announced for 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The European Commission will be required, by <strong>30 April 2026<\/strong>, to carry out an <strong>assessment of the administrative impact of the EUDR, particularly on micro and small enterprises<\/strong>. This analysis could pave the way for further legislative adjustments.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Next step: reaching an agreement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The adoption of this mandate now enables negotiations with the European Parliament to begin.
