As such, it is now considered a third country. Thus, the rules applicable to EU Member States are no longer enforced within its borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, on 30&nbsp;December&nbsp;2020, the United Kingdom and the European Union signed a trade and cooperation agreement. Thus, since 1&nbsp;January&nbsp;2021, this agreement governs the rules applicable to trade between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although an agreement has been reached, Brexit has led to numerous requirements for importing and exporting goods, particularly with the appearance of new procedures on the movements of live animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ASD Group, as a Registered Customs Agent (RCA), assists you to complete these processes by performing the necessary customs procedures<\/strong>, and will ensure you comply with the rules imposed by the British Customs services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To plan effectively to import and\/or export your live animals between the United Kingdom and the European Union, discover the new customs procedures to be followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Procedures on importing\/exporting live animals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1&nbsp;January&nbsp;2021, the rules on movements of live animals between the United Kingdom and European Union have changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Brexit, the customs requirements for import-export of live animals have become stricter. From now on, <strong>any live animal movement is subject to specific procedures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, to import or export between the United Kingdom and European Union, your business and the importer\u2019s business must be registered with the appropriate (phyto)sanitary authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the following requirements must be met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pre-notification using the TRACES-NT system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obtain a sanitary certificate based on the category of animals transported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit a security and safety declaration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, different entry points depending on the live animals imported. So it\u2019s a good idea to find out in advance about the Border Control Post (BCP) to use to enter the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Worth noting: an appointment must be made to carry out the sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) controls. For your animals\u2019 well-being, everything is prepared before your arrival so they spend as little time as possible in transit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Worth noting: if the equines are travelling with straw or hay, the importer must have the invoice certifying that it comes from the United Kingdom.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exporting equines to the United Kingdom<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Exporting for more than 90&nbsp;days<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1&nbsp;January&nbsp;2021, the British sanitary authorities have introduced sanitary and phytosanitary requirements for any equine import from the European Union into the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, European exporters have to comply with the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The animal must be identified (electronic chip).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An animal passport approved by the European Union is required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pre-notification must be given.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sanitary certificate signed by an official vet is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For unregistered equines, it will also be necessary to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supply satisfactory blood test results for:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Equine infectious anaemia (test carried out within 30&nbsp;days prior to travelling).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Undergo an isolation period in a stable of the country or a country having a similar sanitary status for 40&nbsp;days before travelling, separated from other equines without equivalent sanitary status, for at least 30&nbsp;days before travelling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Worth noting: the blood tests and isolation period are not required for equines registered with a studbook (genealogical breed registry) approved by the EU.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Since 1&nbsp;July&nbsp;2021, equines originating from the European Union enter the United Kingdom only through Border Control Posts designated by the British authorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn about our service: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/brexit-importation-et-exportation-dequides-depuis-et-vers-le-royaume-uni\/\">Brexit: ASD Group helps you with the import and export of equines to and from the United Kingdom<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Temporary admission<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Specific procedures have been introduced for equines intended to remain for less than 90&nbsp;days. Under rules for temporary admission, import duties and taxes may be suspended. However, sanitary fees remain applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This measure applies only to equines where the import relates to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An equestrian competition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A horse fair. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A horse race.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training of horses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Horse breeding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/concours-chevaux-equestre-hippique-1024x751.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114039\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Brexit: temporary admission for equestrian competitions or horse races<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>During transport, equines must be accompanied by an ATA report (Admission Temporaire\/Temporary Admission) and a sanitary certificate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the procedures for importing\/exporting domestic animals?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Domestic animals are one of the following species:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Domestic carnivores (dogs, cats, ferrets).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reptiles (e.g. snakes).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amphibians (frogs, toads and other batrachians).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invertebrates (except bees and shellfish)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Domestic rodents and rabbits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ornamental fish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All bird species (except poultry).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/animaux-domestiques-1024x447.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-114058\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Brexit: Importing and exporting domestic animals<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Worth noting: not all Border Control Posts are qualified to inspect pets. Thus, it is essential to find out in advance about the Border Control Post (BCP) to use.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Domestic animals other than carnivores<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To import or export a \u201cdomestic\u201d animal, the owner or authorised person must fulfil the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The movement must not be for commercial purposes. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transport will be restricted to a maximum of 5&nbsp;animals. Only domestic carnivores can obtain an exemption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All the required sanitary documents are available (sanitary certificate, evidence of vaccination, etc.) These items vary depending on the category of animal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Domestic carnivores (dogs, cats and ferrets)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Export to the United Kingdom<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone entering the United Kingdom from the European Union accompanied by domestic carnivores must comply with the following rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For a commercial movement:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have made a pre-notification request.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For a non-commercial movement:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The animal must be identified.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If the stated customs requirements are not fulfilled, the animal may be subject to quarantine for a maximum period of 4&nbsp;months, at the owner\u2019s expense.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, importing domestic carnivores into the United Kingdom is limited to a maximum of 5&nbsp;animals. However, an exemption may be given for participation in a competition, exhibition or sports event. In this case, written evidence is required certifying the animals\u2019 registration at one of these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Importing from the United Kingdom<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone travelling from the United Kingdom to countries of the European Union accompanied by domestic carnivores must comply with the following rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The animal must be identified by an electronic microchip implanted under the skin or by a legible tattoo applied before 3&nbsp;July&nbsp;2011. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The animal must be vaccinated against rabies. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The animal must have a sanitary certificate.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make an appointment with the control authorities before setting off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Find out more: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asd-int.com\/brexit-export-ou-import-au-royaume-uni-nouvelles-obligations-au-1er-juillet-2022\/\">Brexit: do you export to or import from the United Kingdom? New requirements from 1&nbsp;July&nbsp;2022<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Special case: the Landbridge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Landbridge refers to road transport connecting Ireland and the European Union via Great Britain.<\/strong> Although this is intra-community (intra-EU) trade, the goods pass through a third country. Thus, the country\u2019s sanitary and phytosanitary controls must be followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For exports to Ireland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/publication\/dc456-using-the-uk-landbridge-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several steps<\/a> <em>(in English)<\/em> must be followed, more particularly the administrative registration procedures in TRACES-NT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Worth noting: vehicles must transport only animals free to move in the EU.
