Since June 23, 2016, when the Brexit referendum was held and following the launch of Article 50 of the EU Treaty on 29 March 2019, the United Kingdom had 2 years to prepare for its exit from the EU.<\/p>\n

This draft agreement contains the provisions on the transitional period, which does not yet have the status of a political agreement, pending the overall conclusion of it. If applicable, this transitional period, scheduled from March 30,2019 to December, 31, 2020, will see the United Kingdom continue to benefit from the provisions of the Internal Market and the EU Customs Union. The reinstatement of customs formalities and controls with the UK would then be postponed until January 1, 2021.<\/p>\n

But less than two months of Brexit, the no deal is now considered as a reasonable scenario. As the draft withdrawal agreement is not signed yet, Brexit will have an impact on businesses activities. We must therefore prepare for a possible restoration of certain regulatory barriers to exports or imports as of March 29, 2019.<\/p>\n

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A BREXIT WITHOUT AN AGREEMENT?<\/h2>\n

In case of no agreement on the withdrawal between the United Kingdom and the EU before, March 29, 2019, the United Kingdom will be considered as a third country to the European Union.<\/p>\n

CUSTOMS FORMALITIES RECOVERY:<\/h2>\n

If I am a company in the EU and I sell excise goods: I must make a customs declaration, plus the DSA documents<\/p>\n

If I sell agricultural goods: I must make a customs declaration plus a health check.<\/p>\n

CLEARANCE PRINCIPLES:<\/h2>\n

You need to register your company in order to have an EORI number<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Afterwards it is also important to determine the customs nomenclature, its origin, its value to be able to pay duties and taxes according to the goods.<\/p>\n
