What is the BTP Card and are you concerned?

Reading time: < 1 minute

The professional identification card for construction workers (commonly known as the “BTP Card” ) has been mandatory since March 22, 2017.

In France, an employee seconded from a company established outside France working in the sector of construction or public works, has the obligation to be in possession of his BTP Card. This is also the case for an employee working in France for a French company since 1st, October 2017.

The BTP Card has been put in place as part of the fight against illegal work to prevent possible cases of fraud on construction sites. When the French authorities carry out a check on a construction site, all the workers have to present their professional identification card.

WHAT INFORMATION APPEARS ON THE BTP CARD?

  • The identity photo of the worker
  • A QR code indicating all the information of the employer that will be scanned by the controller
  • The personal information of the worker: surname, first name, date of birth, nationality, employer and status (seconded employee, temporary employee or employee)

MORE AND MORE SANCTIONS

In case of irregularity or non-presentation of the BTP Card, the company is fined 2000 € per employee and per offense, and 4000 € in case of recidivism.
