Amazon communicates on the consequences of Brexit for its sellers

Amazon has indicated to its sellers using the “Fulfilment by Amazon” (“FBA”) service that due to Brexit, effective January 1, 2021:

  • Goods stored in the UK by EFN sellers may only be used for orders placed on Amazon.co.uk and delivered to the United Kingdom. They may no longer be sold on any other Amazon platform and delivered outside the United Kingdom.

  • Goods from “Pan-European” sellers may no longer be transferred from Amazon warehouses in the UK to Amazon European warehouses and vice versa.

As a result, from January 1, 2021, Amazon FBA sellers who wish to continue selling in the United Kingdom will be required to build up their own inventory of goods in a UK Amazon warehouse.  

Warning: in order to be able to build up a stock of goods in the UK and resell those goods from there, Amazon FBA sellers will be required to obtain a GB EORI number and a GB VAT number from the first first sale. It will no longer be possible to sell goods in the UK without being VAT registered in the UK.
