United Kingdom: HMRC closes old VAT filing portal

Reading time: < 1 minute

As a reminder, all VAT-identified businesses in the UK, whether established or non-established, are required to file their VAT returns electronically via software compatible with the Making Tax Digital system, known as ‘MTD’.

This has been phased in, depending on the turnover of the business, since 1 April 2019.

On 15 May 2023, HMRC permanently closed the old VAT return submission portal that was previously used by businesses to manually enter VAT return figures.

Since that date, all VAT returns must be submitted via MTD-compliant certified software, which allows VAT returns to be transmitted directly to HMRC electronically.

Since 2019, ASD Group has complied with the HMRC approved MTD standard and implemented the necessary digital tools. ASD Group is fully operational to file your UK VAT returns via MTD.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our experts who will be happy to help you implement these new regulations.
