European Union: the European Commission proposed to postpone by six months the introduction of the e-commerce VAT reform

Reading time: < 1 minute

On 8 May 2020, due to the practical difficulties created by the Covid-19 crisis, the European Commission proposed to postpone by six months the introduction of the e-commerce VAT reform initially planned for 1 January 2021.

If EU member states agree to adopt the proposal, the reform will come into force on 1 July 2021, giving member states and businesses sufficient time to prepare. Warning: despite the ECOFIN meeting on 19 May 2020, the postponement has not yet been confirmed.
