Romania: Grace period for electronic invoicing extended

Reading time: < 1 minute

As a reminder, the Romanian Parliament adopted tax and budgetary measures including the introduction of compulsory electronic invoicing, which also applies to non-resident companies.

The measures included a grace period, during which companies would not be subject to penalties if they failed to comply with these obligations. This period was initially scheduled to run from 1 January 2024 to 31 March 2024.

On 29 March 2024, Romania published Government Emergency Ordinance (GEO) no. 30/2024 in the Official Gazette, containing amendments to law no. 296/2023 concerning fines for electronic invoices to be issued via the Ro e-Invoice system.

These amendments extend the grace period by two months, from 31 March to 31 May 2024.

During this period, no fines will be applied to invoices issued that do not comply with the conditions for electronic invoicing under law no. 296/2023.
