Within the European Union, goods from outside the EU must undergo customs formalities before they are allowed to enter.
The Temporary Storage Facility allows imported goods to be temporarily stored in a warehouse while awaiting customs clearance. This facility ensures that the goods remain secure and under customs control for a period of 90 days.
The goods can then be inspected, sampled or analysed if necessary, particularly in the case of missing documents or additional inspections. Once customs formalities have been completed, the goods are cleared to leave the temporary storage facilities and can be delivered to their final destination.
Temporary storage facilities also allows goods to be unloaded before customs formalities are completed, reducing transport costs.
It should be noted that temporary storage facilities can be set up at the importer’s or exporter’s premises under cover of a registered customs representative (RCR). There is therefore no need for the user to complete any formalities other than appointing a contact person to liaise between the RCR and the customs service.
