Due to inflation exceeding 2% over one year, the SMIC (French minimum wage) is subject to an automatic revaluation on 1 June 2026. Insee recorded in April 2026 a 2.2% rise in consumer prices, driven by the sharp increase in energy prices (oil) in the context of the conflict in the Middle East.

Why this increase?

  • French law requires an automatic revaluation of the SMIC (French minimum wage) as soon as the CPI rises by at least 2% since the last revision.
  • The April 2026 CPI shows +2.2% over one year, a threshold crossed mainly due to the rise in energy prices.
  • The revaluation rate applied is +2.41%.
