From October 2026, in a note to operators1, the French Customs (Directorate-General of Customs and Indirect Taxes – DGDDI)2 indicates that it will strengthen controls in DELTA IE.

Indeed, the Binding Tariff Information (BTI) references indicated in customs declarations must be valid and recognised by the system, failing which the customs clearance will be blocked.

For information, DELTA IE is the new online customs clearance system of the French Customs enabling the dematerialised management of import declarations and the automated control of customs data.

This development is part of the ongoing modernisation of customs procedures and aims to guarantee the consistency of information transmitted during import and export operations.

What is changing

From October 2026, when a customs declaration refers to a Binding Tariff Information (BTI), DELTA IE will automatically check the reference provided.

If it is invalid or does not match the information recorded by the customs administration:

  • ❌ the declaration will not be able to be validated;
  • 🚫 Customs clearance will be suspended until the relevant data has been corrected.

What should you check?

To avoid any rejection of the declaration, it is recommended that you carry out the following checks:

Control PointVerification to be carried out
✅ Validity of the BTICheck that the BTI is still in force.
✅ ReferenceCheck that the reference provided matches exactly the one recorded in DELTA IE.
✅ HolderCheck that the RTC is correctly linked to the right EORI number.

Why anticipate?

An incorrect BTI reference may result in:

  • the rejection of your customs declaration;
  • a blockage of the customs clearance process;
  • delays in your import or export operations.

An upstream verification will enable you to secure your operations and avoid any operational disruptions.
